What is the Clark Fork Watershed?
The Clark Fork River and its tributaries drain most of western Montana. The upper river and headwaters were heavily impacted by wastes from over a century of mining. Today, the area is the largest Superfund environmental clean-up site in the nation.

Seeking Volunteers for Willow Cutting:
CFWEP, in collaboration with the Butte-Silver Bow Arts Foundation and the National Folk Festival, are seeking volunteers to assist in gathering willow cuttings in the Butte area that will be used as art materials for Family Area Activities at the 2008 National Folk Festival in Butte on Saturday and Sunday July 12 and 13. We will provide volunteers with all necessary equipment and transportation to cutting sites. Volunteers are also welcome to come to willow cutting events at any time during the two scheduled cuttings (i.e. you don’t have to be there all day- if you can pitch in for an hour or two, we would appreciate it!). Site locations are To-Be-Announced. To sign-up, or for more information, contact Justin Ringsak, CFWEP, 406-496-4897, jringsak@mtech.edu. Thanks!

George Grant Trout Unlimited is organizing a willow planting in German Gulch this weekend (Saturday).  The plan is to pickup plants from a location on Silver Bow Creek in the AM, and then move up to German Gulch and start planting. Josh Vincent is coordinating the event with Rich Prodgers—it’s a nice opportunity to get involved on a great project in a beautiful (and seldom visited) spot close to Butte.

If you are available to help out, please let Josh know and he’ll get back to everyone on the details [contact info below]. Rich Prodgers has planned about 1500 willows, 20 aspen, and 9 cottonwoods in the reach, so we could use some bodies if you can make it.
