The CFWEP is seeking volunteers to assist in gathering willow cuttings in the Butte area on Monday, July 7 from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. Willow cuttings will be used as art materials for Family Area Activities at the 2008 National Folk Festival in Butte. We will provide volunteers with all necessary equipment for cutting and collecting willows. To sign-up, or for more information, contact Justin Ringsak, CFWEP, 406-496-4897, jringsak@mtech.edu. The CFWEP blog has been updated with some thoughts about the significance of the massive 1908 flood for the Clark Fork Basin from our current perspective 100 years later.

05.30.08: CFWEP recently assisted in the development of a new edition of PitWatch, an informational publication about Butte's Berkeley Pit. Hard-copies are available around Butte, and you can also read PitWatch online at www.pitwatch.org.

WHAT IS CFWEP?
The Clark Fork Watershed Education Program is a multi-disciplinary science -outreach program for schools in the Upper Clark Fork Basin of Montana, from Butte to Bonner. The largest Superfund site in the United States also serves as a showcase for environmental understanding, and how a damaged ecosystem can be restored.
WHY WATERSHED SCIENCE EDUCATION?
We live on a planet that is mostly covered with water. Of course, most of that water is salty, and most of the rest is ice and snow. Less than 0.6% of earth’s water is available for humans to use.
